About Us

We are Free Blockbuster of Everett — a little movie library where anyone can borrow free of charge. We're part of the Free Blockbuster network, a nationwide movement bringing the joy of physical media back to neighborhoods everywhere.

Found a movie you love? Take it home. Have old DVDs, Blu-rays, VHS gathering dust? Donate them. No membership. No fines. No due dates.

We're run by volunteers who believe movies belong to everyone. Come find us, say hello, and maybe rediscover a forgotten favorite.

Frequently Asked
How does this work? +
Walk up, browse what's available, and take what you like. When you're done, bring it back or pass it on.
How many movies can I take? +
There are no hard limits. Take what you'll to watch and leave enough for others to enjoy. The social contract and honor system are in effect.
Can I keep the movies? +
If we have a favorite you can't pass up, it's all yours. We only ask that you do something nice in exchange - fill a food pantry, bring a different movie back to the box, do a silly dance. If you plan to clear out the box and sell the movies to Half Price Books, that's shitty. Don't do that.
Does it actually cost nothing? +
Totally free. No membership card, no deposit, no late fees. This is a community resource, and it's meant to be used and enjoyed freely by everyone.
Can I donate movies? +
Absolutely! In fact, we depend on donations - and the occasional thrift store haul - to keep the collection fresh!
What movies do you carry? +
Our selection is 100% community-driven, so it changes all the time. Follow the socials to see what's new.
Do you carry/accept things other than movies? +
Sure, we're down for adventure. While it's primarily movie-focused, the occasional CD/cassette, trinket, toy, etc. is always appreciated. If you have or want books, we are conveniently located right next to a Little Free Library!
Who runs this? +
Your neighbors! We're just people who like movies and nostalgia and fun.
Isn't heat/cold/rain/humidity/ice/snow bad for VHS/DVDs/Blu-rays? +
Yes, but:

1. They're not in the box long enough for weather to be a problem.
2. We're in the Pacific Northwest, where temps are generally mild and summer humidity is low.
3. Rain is dealt with handily by four walls, a roof, and a door that closes.
4. Many of the movies are getting a second life by coming out of basements, attics, and other less-than-ideal storage conditions.

We've had zero weather or environmental issues.
Why this when there's Netflix? Who has a VCR in the 21st century? Have you thought of all the bad things that can happen? +
Ugh! Stop killing the vibe. Let people enjoy things.
How can I start a Free Blockbuster? +
Visit freeblockbuster.org. They have a ton of resources and guidance to get you started, including different ideas and options for the box itself. Once you're up and going, make sure they get you on the map!

If you're interested in building a customn box like ours, we're happy to share our experience.
How can I get involved or support you? +
Donate movies, spread the word, follow us on social media, and tell your neighbors!
